Sturmanskie originated in 1949, when the First Moscow Watch Factory in the Soviet Union began producing watches under this name for the Air Force.

Sturmanskie is known as the first watch brand in space: Yuri Gagarin wore one on his flight on 12 April 1961. Its collections include Gagarin, Open Space and Arctic, and the brand describes its designs as reflecting the history of Soviet and Russian space exploration. The range includes hand-wound and automatic mechanical watches, with assembly carried out by hand in Moscow.
